Maaveeran releases on May 27
Maaveeran the Tamil dubbing of the mega blockbuster Telugu film Maghadheera is releasing on May 27.
The film directed by hit maker SS Rajamouli has Ram Charan Teja and Kajal Aggarwal in the lead.
The audio of Maaveeran which has music composed by MM Keeravani was launched on April 25 in Chennai by Kamal Haasan and was received by director Mani Rathnam.
At that time producers had announced that Red Giants would release the film in the first week of May.
But now it looks like the film will finally hit the screens on May 27, nearly two years after its Telugu original released.

West Indies will begin the second day searching for the remaining four wickets to keep on top of Pakistan, and Rampaul will be hoping for his first five-wicket haul in a Test match.
"We are on our way to that score (less than 250) and we believe we could be able to finish off the job on Saturday," Rampaul said. "We have confidence and we are playing good cricket as a team. I'm very happy with the way I'm bowling. Everything felt right and I will be looking to finish off the work tomorrow."

Nadal takes on big-serving Isner and while he should devour the American on his favourite clay, he is taking nothing for granted. He is certainly not yet contemplating another clash with man-of-the-year Djokovic on June 5.
"Seriously, I am thinking about Isner," he said.
"Thinking about Djokovic right now would be a big, big mistake, because I don't know if I'm going to ever play this match in this tournament.
"(Isner's) style of game is dangerous. His serve is unbelievable. He can be very dangerous. We will see. I have to be focused all the time."

Kanimozhi, DMK MP and Karunanidhi’s daughter, was arrested and sent to Tihar jail by a Delhi court which dismissed her bail plea in the 2G spectrum scam, saying there was a possibility of witnesses being influenced considering the “magnitude” of the crime.
The 43-year-old daughter of Karunanidhi’s second wife Rajathi, was shocked on hearing the order pronounced by Special CBI judge O P Saini on Friday but maintained her calm in the court.
However, tears welled up in her eyes when she was taken to the court lock-up by police personnel.
Clad in an orange salwar suit, she was later driven in a Delhi police van to Tihar prison where she will be lodged in jail no 6. Former Telecom Minister A Raja is already lodged in Tihar.
The judge also rejected the bail plea of Sharad Kumar, MD and CEO of Kalaignar TV Private Ltd, who along with Kanimozhi, faces the charge of conspiracy and bribery in accepting Rs.200 crore from D B Realty for the channel in the spectrum scam.
“Considering the magnitude of the crime, nature and enormity of the allegations, character of evidence on record and the apprehension that the witnesses may be influenced in case the accused are released on bail, I have no hesitation in holding that both applicants/accused have failed to make out a prima facie case for bail.
“Bail applications are without merit and the same are dismissed,” the court said in its 144-page order brushing aside her lawyer Ram Jethamalani’s arguments that urged for chivalry for her being a woman.
One of the bodyguards of Kanimozhi started crying inconsolably when Kanimozhi was being taken inside the lock-up at Patiala House Courts.
Kanimozhi, who was accompanied by her husband Aravindan, family members and DMK Parliamentary Party chief leader T R Baalu, first inquired about the order from A Raja as she could not hear it properly.
As Raja broke the news to her, stunned Kanimozhi tried very hard to control emotions and was being hugged by her husband before some women constables took over and led her inside the lock-up.
The court said most of the witnesses against the DMK MP are the employees of Kalaignar TV and hence, possibility of they being influenced cannot be ruled out.
“Considering the magnitude of the crime and the fact that many of the witnesses are employees of Kalaignar TV, there is every apprehension that the witnesses may be influenced, if the accused are released on bail,” it said.
The court, which did not go into the merits of the case and termed the observations as “tentative”, said that there were “incriminating” evidence against her and Sharad.
“The role of both of the accused in the case is clear… magnitude of the crime is enormous. The allegations, on the face of it, are very grave. The supporting evidence is also there on record. The submissions, as such, with utmost respect are without merit,” the court said.
The court, which had reserved its order on 7th May, on the bail applications of Kanimozhi and Sharad Kumar has referred to various judgments of the Supreme Court to negate the arguments of noted criminal lawyer Ram Jethmalani who appeared for the DMK leader.
The court rejected the legal argument that an accused be released on bail if she was not arrested during investigations.
“It is clear that on the appearance of an accused in court in response to summons issued by the court, his bail application is required to be disposed of on merits of the case and bail cannot be allowed as matter of right.
“As such the accused has no right to be released on bail simply because she was not arrested during investigation and appeared in the court in response to the summons. He has to make out a case for bail on merits,” it said while referring to various case laws on the issue.
Giving reasons for denial of bail, the court said some of the key witnesses against them were the employees of Kalaignar TV, alleged recipient of Rs 200 crore bribe from firms promoted by Shahid Usman Balwa and they can be influenced upon.
The court also cited the statements of prosecution witnesses G Rajendran, an employee of Kalaignar TV and Aseervatham Achary, a former aide of Raja, to refer to the culpability of Kanimozhi and Sharad Kumar in the 2G scam.
The judge said that both the accused were in conspiracy with each other and A Raja.
They played key roles in receiving illegal gratification for their television channel in which both held 20 percent shares each.
The court also rejected the plea of Jethmalani that Kanimozhi be released on the sole ground that she is a woman.
“Sex is one of the grounds which may be considered at the time of grant of bail. However, considering the magnitude of the crime and the allegations against her, I am unable to show any consideration to her on this ground,” the court said.
However, the “dignified” conduct of Kanimozhi during court proceedings earned special praise for her.
“I wish, I could show her some consideration, considering her extremely dignified conduct in the court,” the CBI Judge said.

Kamasutra girl Shwetha Menon will soon grace the silver screens in Tamil Nadu with Tharam. This film is the dubbed version of the Malayalam blockbuster Kayam, produced by RB Bala. Tharam is about a young woman marrying her brother-in-law after her husband’s death and justifying it.

Deol trio, Priyanka Chopra to dazzle at IIFA Toronto
Bollywood's famous Deols - veteran actor Dharmendra and his sons Sunny and Bobby - are set to enthrall fans in Toronto with their signature dance steps at the 12th International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) Awards to be held next month. Actress Priyanka Chopra will add glamour to the event too.
'Dad is celebrating his 50 years in the industry. It's a great moment for all of us. So we are going to be all together and looking forward to it,' actor Bobby Deol told reporters at a press conference here Thursday night.
Dharmendra, Sunny and Bobby, who were recently seen together in comedy film Yamla Pagla Deewana will perform to peppy songs from the movie, as well as on some of Dharmendra's classic numbers.
'We will of course perform on Yamla Pagla Deewana songs. We would also choose some songs from dad's films on which we can perform,' said Bobby.
Even at 75, the evergreen Dharmendra is quite excited to take to the stage to celebrate five decades of his contribution to the film industry.
'I am loving it. Wherever we go we are going to enjoy because we all love you and you all love us. That's the beauty,' said Dharmendra.
The three-day IIFA weekend is to be held June 23-25.
According to Bobby, IIFA is different from other awards because it takes Bollywood beyond Indian shores and popularises its song and dance culture in different countries every year.
'IIFA is different because it reaches to different parts of the world. India becomes the talk of the town in those countries. They get to know more about Indian culture and it's a great way of spreading across to the world, what Indians are all about,' he said.
Actress Priyanka Chopra said she has not yet decided the numbers she would be performing to at the IIFA event, but she hopes to do something unique.
'This is too early to decide what to perform in IIFA as it still has a month to go. I have performed in almost every award functions this year so would like to do something different in IIFA,' said Priyanka.
Though she will not be performing with the Deols, the 28-year-old said she was looking forward to being with them as she shares a special bonding with the family.'

Arbaaz's debut production venture Dabangg was named the best popular film providing wholesome entertainment at the 58th National Film Awards announced Thursday.
'It's a proud moment for my entire family and the team of Dabangg'. The national award is extremely prestigious. I am over the moon,' said Arbaaz.
On hearing that Do Dooni Chaar has won the award for best Hindi film, Rishi Kapoor was virtually dancing in New York.
'Here we are talking about a sequel to Do Dooni Chaar and now it has won the national award. Wowwwwwwww!!! I am so happy to see such a small film make such a big noise all the way here in the US. Sequel ka haq banta hai (It deserves sequel),' said Rishi.
In the south, the ailing Rajnikanth's son-in-law Dhanush won the best actor award for Aadukalam. His wife Aishwarya said: 'The good news comes at a time when the family is in distress. I'm extremely proud of Dhanush. He has done my father proud, too.'

Kollywood sweeps National awards 2010
Just a little while ago, The 58th National Film Awards have been announced and Dhanush has been honored with the Best Actor Award for his role in the film ‘Aadukalam’. It is not only limited to Dhanush, Director Vetrimaran also bagged National Award for Best Director and Best Screenplay. Best Choreography is Dhinesh Kumar, Best Editor Kishore.te. Aadukalam turned out to be stupendous success and has grossed almost 16 Crores at the box office.

Superstar Rajinikanth’s Endhiran also bagged award for Best Special Effects and Best production design.

Sun Pictures shines, bags 8 National Awards!
One of the biggest production houses in Kollywood, Sun Pictures might have been on cloud nine as two of their production ventures, Aadukalam and Enthiran have bagged eight awards altogether!
Enthiran which featured Superstar Rajinikanth has bagged two National Awards for the Best Art Direction and the Best Special Effects category by Srinivas Mohan and Sabu Cyril respectively.
Aadukalam which has been released for 2011 Pongal has been awarded with six National Awards. Dhanush has been awarded with the National Award for the Best Actor category for his awestruck performance as K.P Karuppu. Shreya Reddy praises Avan Ivan!
A special screening of Bala's much talked film Avan Ivan has been held at Four Frames in Chennai on Wednesday afternoon.
The special screening was strictly held for the cast and crew of the film. After the screening got over, director Bala, the lead cast Vishal, Arya, Janani and Madhu Shalini were showered with praises.
Former actress Shreya Reddy and Vishal's sister-in-law and tweeted: "Just watched Avan Ivan. I'm speechless, Bala sir is nothing short of a genius. What a simple story but beautifully told."
Adding further Shreya said “It’s unbelievable and surprise for me as it was the same actor I have been seeing all these years. Vishal, Arya and GM Kumar have given top notch performances. Vishal excelled in his performance and Avan Ivan will surely take him to the next level in his career”.
Avan Ivan is simultaneously releasing in Telugu as Vadu Veedu.

Mappillai Dhanush who was conferred with National Award for Actor for the film Aadukalam has thanked his father Kasthuriraja and brother Selvaraghavan for bringing him to film industry. He dedicated the National Award he won to father-in-law Superstar Rajinikanth.
Dhanush said “I sincerely dedicate the National Award for Best Actor to Rajini sir. All my prayers for Rajini’s health and he must get well soon and return home. To all the fans of Rajini, I request not to believe the rumors. He is doing fine.”
The actor also thanked the board members of National Award Committee for selecting him for the National Award. He also extended his gratitude to his wife Aishwarya, for motivated him from day one of Aadukalam shoot that he would sure win a National Award.
