GSAT-8 Successfully Launched 2011 | French Guiana Indian Satellite GSAT-8 Launch Success


GSAT-8, Indian communication satellite was succesfully launched from Kourou in French Guiana on May 21 2011 (Saturday) 2.08 am (IST)


The satellite launched by Arianespace Ariane 5 rocket will help in direct to home (DTH) services in India.



GSAT-8 Features & Specifications:


- Built by Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO)


- Weight - 3,100 kg


- GSAT-8 carried 24 transponders for Ku-band relay capabilities in India.


- Used primarily for DTH TV broadcast


- GSAT also has two-channel GAGAN system for aircraft navigation assistance in Indian airspace
