A win over Kings XI Punjab on Saturday could send them to the top of the table.
Punjab's bowlers have had a week's rest since the pasting they received at Feroz Shah Kotla and now face another tough test as they come up against one of the strongest batting units in the tournament. Adam Gilchrist's side were widely reckoned to be among the weakest before the start of the tournament but they have done surprisingly well so far, partly due to Paul Valthaty's heroics.
The reason Punjab aren't in the top half of the table is that they have only played five matches, while everyone else have played at least seven. "We have to deal with what we are presented with in the schedule," Gilchrist said. "We are very keen to play though it's a little odd to have a full week break and then have nine games in the next 21 days."

Haddin ruled out of IPL with finger injury
Brad Haddin, the Australia and Kolkata Knight Riders wicketkeeper, has been ruled out of the rest of the IPL with a fractured finger. Haddin had picked up the injury during Australia's recent one-day series in Bangladesh, and though he played one IPL game after that tour, an MRI on Thursday revealed that his finger hadn't yet healed.
Kolkata can replace Haddin but they have to do it before their next game as the IPL rules state replacements can only be brought in for injured players before a franchise has played eight games. Kolkata's eighth match is against Kings XI Punjab on Saturday. Their coach Dav Whatmore confirmed Haddin's injury and said a replacement would be announced in due course.
The rules also specify that Haddin's replacement must be someone with a base price less than the $325,000 he fetched at the auction.

In what is called a glittering ceremony Prince William and Kate Middleton were married at the Westminster Abbey today witnessed live on television by 2 billion people around the world.
The ceremony was conducted by Archbishop of Canterbury Rowan Williams. Kate wore an ivory silk and satin traditional outfit with a long train. She was seen wearing late Princess Diana’s sapphire ring.
The guests at the abbey were limited to 1,900. But the streets of London wore a festive look with thousands waiting to catch a glimpse of the Royal couple.

VAANAM MOVIE REVIEW

Prolific Telugu director Krish comes to Tamil bringing with him his critically acclaimed Vedam as Vaanam with an ensemble cast of STR (Silambarasan), Bharath, Anushka, Vega, Saranya, Prakash Raj and others. Vedam had given Krish an admirable name to reckon with in the Telugu industry and for his debut in Tamil, the director has chosen the same premise which explored the various layers of human emotions, adhering largely to the original.
Vaanam follows a multi narrative format, which is fairly new to Tamil cinema. The product is about how the lives of five completely unrelated individuals from different places converge at one point cascading in a transformation of their persona and the ensuing corollary. The refreshing factor about Vaanam is it has eschewed the standard DNA of commercial flicks and Krish’s authority on the narrative comes to the fore with this delectably mounted product that tugs at your heart strings.
The characters in Vaanam are very ordinary, relatable mortals with their respective grey shades. Krish has not attempted to aggrandize them and they stand before you immaculately unornamented with their blemishes. STR as cable Raju, Bharath the rock star, Anushka the commercial sex worker, Saranya the helpless mom of an abducted son and Prakash Raj on the look out for his lost brother are the axles around which Vaanam hinges.
The screenplay is intelligently woven around these characters and Krish builds his narration in a neat pattern not losing steam or our attention anywhere. Although dialogues by Giri provide a significant value, it dazzles when Anushka insulted by policeman Radha Ravi says “we sell our souls unrobed but you guys do that with all your robes on” (naanga thuni avuthu velai porom, neenga thuniyoda velai poreenga) or when she jocularly says that while for other jobs, experience is a big plus but in flesh trade, it is just the reverse. Giri’s caliber as an effective dialogue writer is revealed when STR in a choked voice states that truth needs courage and lies do not. And mind you, Vaanam is replete with such gems.
All the artists have performed well and have equal screen presence. But the finest moments, of course, belong primarily to STR who reiterates that at the hands of a good script and a director, he can walk away with all the acting honors. The testimony to this is the scene when he snatches the money bag from Saranya and the vicissitude of emotions that play on his face that toggles between greed and conscience. And the scene at the police station when Anushka wonders if his love was true, the profound expression on his face is noteworthy.
Anushka, the foul mouthed sex worker oozing oodles of oomph meets the sensual demands of her character but sans vulgarity brings tears while pleading to the doctor to save her friend saying that she is ready to sleep with him innumerable times. Bharath delivers a subdued performance and Prakash Raj is his usual best. While Vega, Soniya and Jasmine are adequate, Saranya, Santhanam and VTV Ganesh have delivered a natural and neat portrayal. The scenes with VTV Ganesh are enjoyable and when he talks about standing in front of director Shankar’s house with Rahman as company is hilarious. Santhanam as STR’s friend is his perfect humorous foil. Anushka’s transgender friend Karpuram and Saranya’s father-in-law are impressive.
Under Yuvan Shankar Raja’s music, the opening song ‘Who am I’ showcases Bharath’s dancing skills which is youthful and peppy. The latest youth anthem ‘Evandi Onna Pethan’ is well picturized and STR’s adeptness with his feet and Nirav Shah’s brilliant camera work in the number are noticeable. Although ‘No money no honey’ is enjoyable, it does not add value to the film’s progress in any way.
Nirav Shah’s cinematography is appreciable and the angles and lighting sensibilities up the production value of the film. The different type of lighting at the lodge is just an example. With his tight frame composition, Editor Anthony is impressive.
Even though Vaanam is alluring in most aspects and travels linearly on the attempted track, the cinematic feel of the climax is a placid wart. The track ‘No money no honey’ is apparently forced and brings down the tempo of the film.

Balachander receives Dada Saheb Phalke award
The highest and most prestigious Dada Saheb Phalke award for 2010 has gone to noted writer, producer and director K Balachander. KB (80), as he is affectionately known, is the first trendsetter of Tamil cinema in the 60's and 70’s.
KB is the director who dared to be different and has introduced over 100 new faces to Tamil cinema. His most notable introduction are the two pillars of south cinema Rajinikanth, and Kamal Haasan.
KB as a filmmaker has given us classics such as Apoorva Raagangal, Neer Kumizhi, Thaneer Thaneer, Aval Oru Thodarkathai, Maro Charithra and Ek Dujje Keliye in Hindi.

The English news channels has made him out to be the 'real hero' of DMK campaign machinery as he was able to demolish the credibility of 'Captain' Vijaykanth .
Now after meeting Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi today (April 29) morning, he has taken on Superstar Rajinikanth.
The buzz is that initially Vadivelu was offered a role in Rajinikanth's KS Ravikumar directed Rana, but at the last minute he was dropped.
It seems he was replaced by Ganjakarupu, which irked the senior comedian.
So when a reporter asked Vadivelu about him being removed from Rajinikanth's film, the comedian shot back: "I just don't care,whether it is Rana or Gana! Everything will change once the results
are out on May 13 and Kalaingar comes back as the CM."

Super Machine in 7am Arivu
According to the sources it is revealed that 7am Arivu revolves around a super machine which is brought by villain Vietnamese Johnny Tri Nguyen to India. When this super machine lands in India it starts troubling Suriya and Shruti Haasan. From here the suspense-filled journey starts and this will take the audiences to never ever seen visuals.

Well it’s just a few days left for Engeyum Kadhal release and the storyline of the film is revealed by the film’s director Prabhu Deva.
Choreographer-actor-director says “Well to make it simple words Engeyum Kadhal narrates the love between young man and woman where both are Indians, who meet in France”. On describing elaborately Prabhu Deva says “Jayam Ravi comes from India to France and falls for the foreign life style while Hansika Motwani stars as a France resident but Indian origin, loves and respects the Indian culture and tradition. How romance between these two opposite poles works forms the crux of Engeyum Kadhal.”
“Music by Harris Jayraj is one of the best parts of the film and we planned of having only seven songs in the film but Harris has surprised us by giving us eight songs says Prabhu Deva with all smiles”.

Rajni is taken ill, hospitalised
Tamil movie superstar Rajnikanth was admitted in the intensive care unit (ICU) of St. Isabel Hospital here Friday after a bout of vomiting in the morning, doctors said.
According to hospital officials, Rajnikanth has been admitted in the ICU for discomfort.
Speaking to reporters, the actor's wife Lata Rajnikanth said the superstar is safe and there is nothing to worry.
She said the actor ate something in the morning and started throwing up. "The doctors are attending to him and he is in safe hands," she said.
In the morning, Rajnikanth was shooting for the movie "Rana" here. He is doing a triple role in the film.
Directed by K.S. Ravikumar, "Rana" is being produced by Rajnikanth's daughter Soundarya's Ochre Studios in association with Eros International.

I started my career with ‘Amaravathi’ and now my 50th film ‘Mankatha’ is all set for release. I would like to this opportunity to thank my co-stars, filmmakers, producers, technicians, journalists, fans and public and my family members. I have been over a deep thought making a decision upon an issue and now I felt like announcing it.
I have never used my fans for my personal interests and will never do such things at any point of time. If my films are good, they have the rights to appreciate it and on pars if not done well, they own the rights to criticize and advise me. At the same time, I am clear about the fact that all my fans are not the members of my fans club. I have never differentiated my fans on this ground.
The fans club members haven’t been affirmative towards my requests and there is no unity amongst them. It makes me so distressed to see that some of them have misused the fans club identity in political arenas.
I also believe and want the fans to be involved in social activities without being a heaviness for their family members. Social services need not be carried on only with the support of Fans Club, it’s enough if one has a good motive and thoughts.
Thereby, I would like to make it clear that from my birthday, i.e. from May 1, 2011 onwards I have decided to dissolve my Fans Club.
At this point of time, when the entire globe is going for an abrupt transition in terms of development and advancement, I don’t think ‘Fans Club’ is a real need for situation. An actor needn’t have any connection on any grounds apart from his profession. It’s more than enough if people feel it good, appreciate or criticize his performance and thusly making his career effective.
