Best Kotla wicket I have ever played: Kohli

Royal Challengers Bangalore's Virat Kohli termed the Feroze Shah Kotla wicket, which hosted their Indian Premier League match against Delhi Daredevils here on Tuesday night, as the best he has ever played on.
"It's a good wicket. I haven't played on a better wicket here than this. Not just the batsman, it had something for the bowlers too," Kohli said after leading his team to a three-wicket win.

Kohli was delighted to have performed in front of his home crowd.
"I wanted to do well at this ground. Had a good idea about the Kotla pitch, but it's not that I scored because of that. You have to still play well," he said after being adjudged man-of-the-match for his fiery 56-run knock.
The stylish batsman from Delhi was full of praise for RCB teammate Chris Gayle.
"It's amazing batting with him. He takes the pressure off us. He has given us good starts in both the matches. He has been wonderful for us," Kohli said.
After a flying start, Bangalore lost their way for a while, losing three quick wickets, before getting their act together to prevail in the last over.
"The way we were going, at 12 an over; that's a very good rate no matter how big a target you are chasing. Then Warner made a brilliant run out. But if I had stayed and AB too, we could have finished the game three overs earlier.
"We knew we can bounce back. It's a big plus, big positive for us. Hope to take the home advantage in the next couple of games," Kohli said.
Despite his team s fourth defeat and third at home, Delhi kipper Virender Sehwag was hopeful of a turnaround.
"It's just a matter of getting our act together. If we win a couple of games, we can still qualify," Sehwag said.
Sehwag, however, expressed disappointment over his team s overall showing in the match.
"160 was a par score. But there were too many boundaries in the first six overs (of the RCB innings). We then came back with the wicket of Gayle and Kohli and the run out by Warner.
But I am disappointed. We have to bowl well, field well and there were too many misfields, he said.
Sehwag said getting a solid start was of paramount importance in the tournament.
"If the openers don't get good starts then the middle order comes under pressure. And it's difficult to play under pressure," he said.
Sehwag also refused to accept that the team lacks firepower in bowling.
"We have the bowlers but in T20 you never know. Even the best of bowlers can go for runs. You have to bowl to a good line and, length and instead of bowling bad deliveries, you have to force the batsman to make mistakes," he said.
Sehwag is also gung-ho about playing against the Gautam Gambhir-led Kolkata Knight Riders in their next match.
"Playing against Gautam is challenging and he is a very good player. Playing against a team that's coming off after good wins, it's a challenge. Hopefully, we'll get a good wicket," Sehwag said.

Pune must beat Chennai in return match

Pune Warriors would need to lift themselves up by the boot-straps when they clash with Chennai Super Kings at their home venue, the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai, just a day after being beaten by them.
The Warriors, led by India's World Cup hero Yuvraj Singh, began their debut season on a high with back-to-back victories over Kings XI Punjab and Kochi Tuskers Kerala earlier this month, both at the DYP.

But the defeat against Delhi Daredevils at their home venue, despite scoring an imposing total of 187 for 5, started the Warriors' slide and they lost successive ties to Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium and to CSK at the latter's backyard - Chidambaram Stadium.
On a sluggish pitch last night, Warriors allowed the Mahendra Singh Dhoni-skippered Super Kings to score 140-plus through less-than-perfect work on the field and their batsmen failed to get going in the run-chase.
Two big defeats in the space of five days would be a dampener and the task in front of Warriors is to put the past behind and regroup as a winning combination in home conditions which suit their style of play.
In fact, the DYP stadium track brings out their best as it helps the pacers get movement and the batsmen like Yuvraj, Jesse Ryder and Robin Uthappa to play shots more freely because the ball comes onto the bat nicely.
Uthappa made a duck and was bowled around his legs while trying to sweep R Ashwin but a return to a venue where he has batted much better would lift his spirits.
The unavailability of the injured Graeme Smith did affect the team's balance as Mohnish Mishra was sent up to open with Jesse Ryder and it's not clear when the South African southpaw would completely recover from the hamstring strain.
"He (Smith) feels much better now," said a team source.
The Warriors also need to be at their physical best as they would be playing four matches, counting the first leg tie against the defending champions, in the space of six days which includes travelling to Bangalore and Jaipur too after Wednesday's home game.
The return to DYP could result in a call-up to Wayne Parnell at the cost of Nathan McCullum who played in Chennai. With Jerome Taylor performing very well, the new ball bowling looks meatier, but the same cannot be said about the slow bowling as Murali Kartik has been less than par for the course.
The Super Kings, on the other hand, would be happy to get their title hunt back on track after a string of defeats. But they have won all their three matches at home and are yet to win their first away game.
The form of Michael Hussey at the top of the order must be a very pleasing aspect for the team's think-tank and though Murali Vijay has not converted his starts to big scores, he has done his bit.
But the indifferent form of key batsman Suresh Raina, who flopped in their last two games, must be a cause for some concern as he is an impact player for the defending champions with his flamboyant batting, outstanding fielding and effective (in this format) bowling.
In fact, it was in fielding that not only Raina but others like S Badrinath outscored the Warriors and Dhoni appreciated this factor in his post-match comments.
The team's pacers Doug Bollinger, Albie Morkel and Tim Southee (if included) would relish the pitch at the DYP much more than the Chepauk track.
Though Ashwin and Suraj Randiv have performed well at home, it remains to be seen whether they can be effective on the surface here which does not aid spin bowling as much.

Real Madrid vs Barcelona Preview

Kaka and Gonzalo Higuain orchestrated Real Madrid's 6-3 destruction of Valencia in La Liga on Saturday and demonstrated the impressive strength in depth available in Jose Mourinho's squad. Brazilian playmaker Kaka scored two goals and set up another two while Argentine striker Higuain also set up two and bagged a hat-trick for himself. Both players are coming back from long-term injuries and made starts as coach Mourinho rested many of the players who had competed in Wednesday's 1-0 extra-time victory over Barcelona in the Copa del Rey final.
David Villa's return to goalscoring form has provided a much-needed lift to Barcelona and coach Pep Guardiola, whose defensive problems have been compounded again by injuries to Gabriel Milito and Maxwell. With Carles Puyol, Eric Abidal and Adriano also on the medical list, Guardiola has a severe defensive headache as Barca prepare for Wednesday's Champions League semi-final first leg away to a Real Madrid side now bristling with confidence. It was unclear how long Milito (calf) and Maxwell (groin) would be out of action. Puyol trained apart from the rest of the squad on Sunday, while Abidal and Adriano are unlikely to play again this season.

MATCH FACTS

Head-to-head record (in Europe):

Played: 6 / Wins: Real 3, Barcelona 1, draws 2 / Goals: Real 12, Barcelona 7
EC: SF 21.04.60 Real 3 Barcelona 1 / 27.04.60 Barcelona 1 Real 3
EC: R2 9.11.60 Real 2 Barcelona 2 / 23.11.60 Barcelona 2 Real 1
CL: SF 23.04.02 Barcelona 0 Real 2 / 1.05.02 Real 1 Barcelona 1
This will be the third time that the two Spanish arch-rivals have met in the semi-final of Europe's premier club competition. Real advanced to the final on both previous occasions - in 1960 and 2002.
Real are unbeaten in their last 11 CL games and have kept clean sheets in eight of the last 10. They share with Manchester United the distinction of having the best defence in this season's competition, conceding only three goals in their 10 games.
Real have played 12 games against fellow-Spanish clubs in Europe and have lost only twice, both more than 50 years ago - 1-0 to Atletico Madrid in the 1959 European Cup semi-finals and 2-1 to Barcelona in the 1960-61 European Cup.
Real's Jose Mourinho, aiming to become the first coach to win the CL with three different teams after guiding Porto and Inter Milan to the trophy, has always found Barcelona a tricky opponent. In 10 CL games against them with Chelsea and Inter he has won only three times and lost four.
Barcelona are playing in their fourth consecutive CL semi-final of which they have lost two - to Manchester United in 2008 and Inter Milan last season. They beat Chelsea on away goals in the other tie in 2009. In the six semi-finals played over the last three seasons they have won just one match (1-0 at home to Inter last year) and scored just three goals.
Barcelona have lost both previous CL semi-finals against Spanish clubs - losing 3-1 on aggregate to Real in 2002 and 5-3 to Valencia two years earlier. Barca have something of a semi-finals complex, winning just four of their last 18 semi-final games in all European competitions.
Barcelona's Argentine forward Lionel Messi has scored 15 goals in his last 15 CL games, including nine this season, but he has not found the net in any of the six semi-finals over the past three years.
Barcelona have won only three of their last 14 CL away games and have not won any of their last six away matches in European competition against other Spanish clubs.

United overawe Schalke to edge towards final

Manchester United took a giant stride towards the Champions League final with a one-sided 2-0 win over Schalke 04 in the first leg of their semi-final at the Auf Schalke Arena.

Incessant United pressure and a glut of chances finally told mid-way through the second half as Ryan Giggs and Wayne Rooney netted within two minutes of each other to give Alex Ferguson's side a clear advantage going into the return leg at Old Trafford next week.
Victory was just the eighth time in 20 outings United have beaten German opposition in the competition, and if next week's game in Manchester proves as one-sided as this match, a third final appearance in four years for Alex Ferguson's side is assured.
With Javier Hernandez and Rooney starting up front - support coming from the tireless Park Ji-sung and Antonio Valencia on the flanks with Giggs probing from midfield - the match belonged to United as they time and again found ways through an uncertain Schalke back line that was bereft of confidence.
The visitors could easily have been three up within the first quarter of an hour and would have been had it not been for one man - Manuel Neuer.
The goalkeeper, courted by some of Europe's biggest clubs including United, provided ample proof of exactly why he is so highly rated with excellent stops to deny Rooney, Hernandez and then Park inside the first 15 minutes.
Livewire Hernandez hit the side netting and dragged a shot wide of the upright before Neuer was called into action again, this time to deny the unmarked Giggs with a downward header amid some shoddy Schalke defending.
Neuer, who has confirmed he will leave Schalke at the end of the season - of undoubted interest to United, with Edwin van der Sar set to retire at the end of current campaign - then repelled another crisp Hernandez effort and neither Giggs nor Park could capitalise on the rebound.
But the two best chances of the first half came at the end of the period, when first Fabio - preferred at right-back to his brother Rafael and John O'Shea - blazed over the bar from 10 yards and then Giggs, who was clean through on goal, saw his effort well-saved by Neuer.
United's dominance of the opening period was total in terms of possession, territorial advantage and chances. All that was lacking was a goal. Yet they began the second half as they had ended the first - on the front foot, in control and creating chances galore.
And like in the first half, initially at least, they failed to capitalise on the glut of opportunities fashioned soon after the restart.
Michael Carrick, enjoying one of his better performances this season in the acres of space he was afforded in the middle of the park, headed on target only for Neuer to tip over before Giggs wasted his second great chance of the night, firing wide of the mark with his weaker right foot.
Hernandez then did find the back of the net, only to be flagged offside, but such was United's swagger, there was never a sense that it would be 'one of those nights'.
And in the 68th minute, United finally broke the deadlock and took the lead they so richly deserved, Giggs making amends for his earlier profligacy with an assured finish from Rooney's cute ball through.
Rooney doubled United's lead within two minutes, Hernandez playing the ball through for the England striker to fire low past Neuer.
With Schalke looking highly unlikely to trouble Van der Sar at the other end and the game effectively wrapped up, Ferguson was able to withdraw both Rooney and Hernandez with one eye on the weekend's crunch Premier League clash with Arsenal.
But even without the strike pair on the pitch, United could still have increased their advantage as Patrice Evra made good ground on the left hand side, only to fire wide of an upright.
The Red Devils are now unbeaten in their last 12 Champions League matches. A 13th and they will book their place in May's final against either Real Madrid or Barcelona.

Joel Julio vs Antwone Smith Preview & Prediction – May 20 2011

In an ESPN televised fight from the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey, Joel Julio will fight Antwone Smith in a Junior middleweight bout.

Joel Julio is coming into this fight with a win against Alfredo Angulo by KO. This Colombian fighter is known for his great punching power. With power his punches are also fast & accurate. But he has a great weakness against quick lateral moving boxers. Boxers with good footwork may outsmart Julio anytime. He has a record of 36-4 with 31 KOs.

Antwone Smith has won two fights in a row after his stoppage loss to Lanardo Tyner last July. He comes in this fight with a record of 20-2-1 with 12 KOs. His style is orthodox with good punching ability. But as far as result of this fight is concerned he is no match for Joel Julio. Joel Julio wins the bout convincingly.

Kendall Holt vs Julio Diaz Preview & Prediction – May 13 2011

May the 13th will witness the light welterweight bout between Kendall Holt & Julio Diaz taking place at Shumash Casino in Santa Ynez, California.

Holt, the clear favourite going into the match has a record of 26-4 with 14 KOs. With a reach of 71 inches, this 29 year old boxer has recently defeated likes of Lenin Arroyo, Demetrius Hopkins, Ricardo Torres & Ben Tackie. In fact his fight against Arroyo was the last he fought in January this year where he knocked down his opponent. But he also has tasted defeat in the hands of Kaizer Mabuza & Timothy Bradley.

Diaz, it was rumoured, was unwilling to have this fight in the first place. He hasn’t had a great form lately where he lost 3 of his last 7 fights. His last fight was against Pavel Miranda which he won by a TKO. Right now it seems that orthodox style of this Mexican is no match for Holt’s power & experience. If the rumours of his unwillingness about this fight are true then he is going into the fight with a low confidence & unless he comes out of it he stands no chance against someone like Holt.

Chennai Super Kings vs Pune Warriors Live Score

The Chennai Super Kings will host the Pune Warriors in the 29th game of the Indian Premier League 2011. The game will be played on Monday and will be hosted by Chepauk in Chennai.

The two teams have not had the best of times this season. Both had started off with a win but after that, things have gone down drastically for them.

For one, the Chennai Super Kings have lost three of their last four games; giving them only four points from their five games. On the other hand, the Pune Warriors have won two to begin with, but lost the third one.

The players who will want to stand up and be noticed are Suresh Raina for the Super Kings. He has not had the best of times at the crease and has yet to contribute too much in the tournament. what he needs is to ensure that he can get a start and build on it.

The Pune Warriors will need to look at how their batting is line up. Tim Paine at the top does not look like a good option; instead, Callum Ferguson needs to be given a go.

Vijay's 'paalkaran' act in Velayudham

Remember Superstar's Annamalai, where he played the role of a milkman? Now Vijay is all set to repeat the magic of a milkman in his upcoming film Velayudham. According to sources, Vijay plays a simple man who believes in basic human virtues. How situations force him to take on the baddies forms the rest of the story. There is also strong speculation that the film is inspired from Nagarjuna's Telugu film Azad.

The crew recently shot a colourful marriage scene in Pollachi for which the entire village was decorated. According to sources, the producers has spent more than one crore for this marriage sequence. Velayudham, directed by Jayam Raj, has Hansika Motwani and Genelia in the lead roles. The film is produced by V. Ravichandran under Aascar Films banner. Vijay’s ‘Velayudham’ before Diwali

Ilayathalapathy Vijay has almost completed working on his next film ‘Velayudham’. Initially, the film was reported of having the longest call sheet schedule of Vijay for nearly 6 months. But now it is surprising for everyone to hear that the shooting is almost completed. Director Raja is always known for completing his projects on time and this is the first time, he is coming up with a project that is produced by some other banner and features an actor other than Jeyam Ravi in lead role.

Since Vijay has more projects in the pipeline, he wants to complete ‘Velayudham’ as soon as possible.

Right now Vijay has started working on third schedule of ‘Nanban’ and it looks like the shooting of this film will also be completed shortly.

With everything going on smoothly, buzzes are that ‘Velayudham’ will hit screens much prior to Diwali.

Delhi Daredevils vs Royal Challengers Bangalore Preview and Score

Delhi Daredevils vs Royal Challengers Bangalore Preview and Score

After lacklustre starts to the tournament, both Delhi Daredevils and Royal Challengers Bangalore have taken bold steps to try to improve their fortunes; for each of them, the moves worked in their last games. The newly-prepared green top at the Feroz Shah Kotla allowed Virender Sehwag and David Warner to play their strokes, as the ball came on to the bat, and the Delhi fast bowlers enjoyed the bounce they got from the track.

For Bangalore, the shot in the arm came in the form of new signing Chris Gayle, whose century helped turn around a trend that had seen Bangalore not manage an opening stand of more than seven in their previous four matches.

The switch from the traditional slow-and-low Kotla wicket to a livelier one makes sense for Delhi, since all their foreign players are either Australian or South African - and therefore used to bouncy tracks - while their most-expensive player, Irfan Pathan, is a seamer. Tuesday's match will be a test of whether the win against Kings XI Punjab was a one-off or whether their strategy to pack the side with seamers for home games can be a consistently successful one.

From Bangalore's point of view, they will want to make as much use of their new opening partnership before Tillakaratne Dilshan leaves for England, which could be as early as May 10.

Adding further interest is the fact that Bangalore snapped up four of Delhi's foreign stars from last year in the January auction. "Old Delhi v New Delhi," Delhi coach Greg Shipperd dubbed the contest, though with several players changing teams in the rejigging, former team-mates clashing is not uncommon.

Apart from the fluidity of players' loyalties, the other salient feature of the IPL tomorrow's match exposes is its innate forgivingness. In many other sporting leagues Delhi and Bangalore's starts of three losses in their first four games may have seen heads roll at the franchises. But because of the congested nature of the IPL table, both teams find themselves in a position where a single win will put them right back in contention for the knockout stages.

FC Schalke 04 - Manchester United Preview

FC Schalke 04 - Manchester United Preview

Sir Alex Ferguson's side aiming for win to set up first ever two-legged success against German opposition

Premier League leaders have yet to concede goal on their travels in Europe but head to Veltins-Arena to face a Bundesliga team with a perfect home record in the competition

Schalke (4-4-2): Neuer; Uchida, Metzelder, Howedes, Sarpei; Baumjohann, Matip, Papadopoulos, Jurado; Edu, Raul.

Benedikt Howedes is a doubt for the hosts and could join an injured list which includes Peer Kluge, Klaas-Jan Huntelaar, Christian Pander, Mario Gavranovic, Christop Moritz and Tim Hoogland.

Manchester United (4-4-2): Van der Sar; Rafael, Ferdinand, Vidic, Evra; Nani, Carrick, Giggs, Park; Rooney, Hernandez.

The vistors are expected to bring Nemanja Vidic, Patrice Evra and Ryan Giggs back to the starting line-up after they were all rested at the weekend. Rafael may get the nod at right-back whilst striker Dimitar Berbatov is a doubt and Darren Fletcher is still to return to full fitness after a virus.

Schalke have won every single one of their home matches in the Champions League this season.
Striker Raul (pictured right) has won the Champions League three times, all as a Real Madrid player, as many times as United have won the competition.
This is Schalke’s first ever appearance in the last four of the Champions League and also their first ever tie against Manchester United.
Schalke currently sit 10th in the Bundesliga, 29 points behind leaders Borussia Dortmund.
Ralf Rangnick's side warmed up for the semi-final with a 1-0 home defeat to Kaiserslautern
Manchester United are yet to concede a goal on their travels this season, and have won four and drawn one of their five away games.
Ryan Giggs is the sole survivor of the Manchester United team that famously defeated Bayern Munich 2-1 in the 1999 Champions League final courtesy of late goals from Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Teddy Sheringham. Paul Scholes was suspended and missed the final at Camp Nou.
The Red Devils have never won a two-legged knockout tie against German opposition. They have lost all four attempts, most recently against Bayern Munich last season in the quarter-finals.
Michael Owen scored a hat-trick on his last appearance on German soil. The striker bagged all three goals as United beat Wolfsburg 3-1 in the group stages last season.
Sir Alex Ferguson has led United to six Champions League semi-finals, his record is won three, lost three.

Tight security arrangements have been made with the deployment of over 600 security force personnel to ensure free, fair and peaceful polling, official sources said.

In all 17,792 polling booths have been set up with 97.47 per cent voters having EPICs, Election Commission sources said.

The 75 constituencies include 11 in Kolkata, 33 in neighbouring North and 31 in South 24-Parganas districts.

Apart from Bhattacharjee, other prominent candidates are Finance Minister Asim Dasgupta, Housing Minister Gautam Deb, Transport Minister Ranjit Kundu, the Leader of the Opposition Partha Chatterjee, Kolkata Mayor Sovan Chatterjee, former FICCI secretary general Amit Mitra and cinestar Debashree Roy.

Bhattacharjee is pitted against former state chief secretary and Trinamool Congress candidate Manish Gupta in Jadavpur constituency in South 24 Parganas district, while the former FICCI secretary general was taking on Asim Dasgupta in Khardah in North 24 Parganas.

Although No Parganas was regarded as a Left stronghold, Trinamool Congress has made deep inroads in the district making a clean sweep in the Lok Sabha elections in 2009.

Trinamool Congress also made substantial gains in South 24 Parganas where the party won all the four Lok Sabha seats in 2009. The zilla parishad in South 24 Paraganas was also under the party's control of TC.

The story is the same in Kolkata where the TC had captured both the Lok Sabha seats in 2009, besides winning the Kolkata Municipal Corporation poll last year with a huge margin.

The high voltage campaign witnessed Prime Minister Manmohan Singh sharing the dais with Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee at Dum Dum where he hit out at the Left Front government for "failure" on all fronts including law and order.

Union Home Minister P Chidambaram also made a sharp attack on the LF saying that West Bengal was the worst-governed state in the country.

Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee led the Front campaign which also saw expelled CPI-M leader and former Lok Sabha speaker Somnath Chatterjee canvassing for the LF candidates in Ballygunj and Dum Dum.

Chatterjee has alleged that a rag tag coalition led by the Trinamool could not be an alternative to the LF.

The campaign was marked by former CPIM MP Anil Basu using foul language against the TC supremo which triggered sharp reactions and led the party to secure a written apology from him.

Kalmadi to be produced in special CBI court today

Sacked Commonwealth Games (CWG) Organizing Committee chairman Suresh Kalmadi will be produced in a special Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court at Patiala House today.

Kalmadi was on Monday arrested by CBI on charges of cheating, conspiracy and corruption for his alleged role in the AM Films and Swiss Time scams.

CBI officials questioned Kalmadi for the fourth time on Monday about several contracts that saw the most expensive firms being hired for equipment and services.

The arrest order was carried out after the CBI had questioned Kalmadi extensively on the two incidents, particularly on the documents relating to the two deals.

The CBI had earlier asked Kalmadi to appear before it on Monday to clarify some new issues, which surfaced during the visit of the agency's officials to London in connection with Queen's Baton Relay scam.

Kalmadi had earlier expressed his inability to appear before the CBI citing his foreign visit, saying he would return home only after April 19. But even after returning from his visit abroad, he did not turn up before the sleuths saying he was still not in Delhi, sources said.

Kalmadi has been accused of sanctioning payments to AM Films and AM Car at rates that were hugely inflated.

The AM Car and Van Hire Company in London was engaged during Queen's Baton Relay in 2009 to provide services like taxis for the guests and OC members. The AM films was hired to provide display monitors during the event.

Kalmadi's aides had earlier justified hiring AM Films and AM Car by saying other bids were not competitive, but now the CBI has found that the names of other bidders given by Kalmadi, were all forged and fake.

Child rights issues should figure in poll agenda: Activists

Political parties contesting the West Bengal Assembly polls have been urged to make the plight of disadvantaged children a part of their agenda by child right activists here.

"Since children do not vote, their problems are often ignored by politicians. We want their issues to be reflected in the agenda of candidates," said Atindranath Das of leading child rights organisation Child Rights and You (CRY).

With support from partner NGOs, they have issued a child rights charter of demands to all political parties.

Their demands include free education for those below 18, an end to child labour, food security, healthcare, legislation against child abuse and the formation of a state child rights commission.

"As the state goes to vote, we are reminding voters that one-fourth of the state - as many as 40 per cent citizens out of a population of 80 million - will not vote because they are children. But we do not want their interests to slip off the political radar," said Shampa Sengupta, who runs Sruti Disability Rights Centre.

She complained that the issue of disabled children hardly figured in the manifestos of political parties.

Danseuse Alokananda Roy, who also runs a child development NGO in the city, pointed out that children, particularly those of sex workers and convicts, continued to be discriminated against in society.

"They also have the right to grow as normal children. But they suffer due to the past of their parents," she rued.
